The previous post talked about how perfection is overrated. It talked about how God has called you to trust him. How you will have to sacrifice your time, money, and talents at times. How the harvest from these sacrifices will be worth it.
I would like to continue with this. I want to talk about patience with yourself. I had mentioned in that post how if I’m not running toward sin, Satan is trying to bind me up by condemning.
For example, let’s say the Lord has enlightened me in one area in my life that I need to start focusing on to change. I start doing just that. Satan is right along side in my ear telling me how much of a failure I was before by not catching it before. Or I’ll be doing good in that area for a long time, and I slip up. Maybe I had a cursing problem in the past and I let a word fly in a moment of vulnerability. You better believe Satan is going to take that moment and magnify it in my head or yours. This is where we should show patience toward ourselves.
I don’t believe for a moment God is going to send a bolt of lightning down and strike us dead because we said a curse word. He is patient with us because he does not look at that. He looks at our heart. He knows us better then we know ourselves.
I’m not making this post to condone sin whatsoever. I am trying to encourage you in those moments of condemnation and give you some examples of how Satan can get a foothold into your head and keep you chained from moving forward in your walk with God.
Read the next post to learn how to to get some perspective on who God is. This is how you can keep from stepping into the even worse of sins.
Being patient with ourselves involves time and understanding into who God is. What He desires for us. He desires relationship and family. Isn’t that what the core desire is in anyone’s heart. Is to be understood and loved. I believe that is what God’s is.
Below are some scriptures for you to think up on:
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1 (NIV)
Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. Romans 5:16 (NIV)
For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! Romans 5:17 (NIV)
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.. 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV)
And do not give the Devil foothold. Ephesians 4:27 (NIV)
There are many ways that Satan will try to sneak in to get a foot hold and that can lead to a stronghold in your life. Do your part to know who God is and know who you are. Follow me on the next couple of post to know who God is and then who you are.
